What does diversity have to do with innovation?

The Center of Talent Innovation (CTI), a U.S. think tank, has studied the correlation between a diverse workforce and a company's capacity for innovation. A key finding of this study was that companies which attach a high degree of importance to diversity are demonstrably more innovative than companies with a more homogeneous workforce. During a roundtable hosted in Darmstadt, Germany, HR managers and diversity officers from more than 20 leading German companies discussed how they can usefully apply the study results to their companies.

Diversity at our company

"Not only do we want to sponsor diversity; we also need to foster it," says Belén Garijo, Chief Executive Officer of our biopharmaceutical division. Through various initiatives, we are attempting to leverage the innovative potential of its increasingly heterogeneous workforce. Our company, which operates in 66 countries worldwide, has employees with 121 nationalities; only 26% of employees are German. The percentage of women in management has risen continuously over the last several years.
