Solvents – recycled
We are constantly working to optimize our chemical processes in an effort to reduce waste. This is why we're now treating solvents and reusing them. Take for instance our heptane recycling initiative. Heptane is utilized as a solvent to separate mixtures, a process necessary for the purification of liquid crystals.
We collect the used heptane and have an external recycling company treat it, purifying the heptane so that we can reuse it in our processes. By doing so, we can recycle more than 85% of the heptane, thereby cutting our annual consumption by 1,900 metric tons. This also reduces our waste and significantly improves the carbon footprint of the process.
